GFS Edmonton is proud to be part of the largest, privately held foodservice distributor in North America; Gordon Food Service (GFS) headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan USA.  In 2006 GFS announced that they would be building brand new, state of the art facilities in both Winnipeg and Edmonton.  Construction was completed in the summer of 2007, and both facilities have been growing exponentially ever since.

The storage environments in both new buildings are controlled, with independent areas dedicated to Grocery, Freezer (further separated into frozen goods and Ice Cream) and Cooler (further separated into cooler, meat & produce) products.  On the freezer/cooker side, our docks are refrigerated giving us 100% control over products once they are received into our buildings.  The ability to keep product at a more consistent temperature from the time of production until it hits customers’ plates helps to maintain its consistency, quality and integrity. 

Our buildings are compliant with all food safety requirements (HACCP – Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point), which is regulated by an independent third party auditor.  In Edmonton our strategic alliance partner Intercity Packers (ICP) is located on-site, allowing us to offer an extensive custom protein program with the convenience of broadline distribution for our customers’ convenience.  As a result we will soon be CFIA accredited, which means that our building will adhere to the same stringent safety measures as food processing plants, not just for food distribution centres.

Gordon Food Service is based in Grand Rapids, Michigan and has been family owned and managed since 1897. Gordon Food Service is renowned for integrity, teamwork, innovation & customer service excellence.

Gordon Food Service USA is the largest privately held foodservice distributor in North America. GFS has over 6,500 employees, and operates with leading edge technology, in-house programming and a fully automated warehouse.

In 1994, Gordon Food Service entered the Canadian marketplace by purchasing Maple Leaf Food Service in Ontario and Quebec. In 1995 Gordon Food Service merged with Distal of Beauport, Quebec in order to serve the Quebec market and later that year with Finlay Greenwood of Hamilton to expand their Ontario base.

In December 2001 Gordon Food Service announced the letter of intent to acquire GFS Edmonton, a family owned business which began in the 1930’s. GFS Edmonton is a broad line distributor based in Calgary, and serves over 3,000 customers in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

In March 2002, Gordon Food Service sought to expand their services from coast to coast, and acquired the Vancouver based SERCA Pacific. This new addition took back the original name of Neptune Food Service, which originally began in 1965.

Gordon Food Service now operates from coast to coast, with offices in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Ontario, Quebec City, Montreal, Amherst Nova Scotia and via Atlantic Grocery Distributors in Bay Roberts, Newfoundland.

Our warehouses are designed to service restaurants, cafeterias, industrial caterers, convenience stores, hospitals and nursing homes with everything from grocery, frozen food, beverages, fresh produce, fresh meat & seafood, and dairy product to equipment & smallwares.
